What Type of Companies can be established in the UAE?

1. Mainland Company (Onshore Company):
Required a Local Sponsor of 51%, It is established in the mainland areas through the Department of economic development.

2. FreeZone Company (Onshore Company):
100% fully owned company doesn’t require a local sponsor. Can be established through the freezone license authority of any 7 emirates.

3. Offshore Company:
An offshore company or an international business company can be established in the UAE with 100% ownership. This company is a virtual in nature and doesn’t comply with the mainland or freezone laws of the UAE.

What is the difference between Freezone & Mainland Business Setup?

Freezone Business Setup doesn’t require a local sponsor to be involved in the company. All the freezones are established with 100% ownership. Freezone businesses however are restricted to do business within the freezone boundaries or other countries and hence are not allowed to trade directly with the mainland areas.

Mainland Business setup requires a local sponsor (Mostly 51%) and can be established in any mainland areas of the 7 emirates of the UAE. There are no restrictions in doing business locally or internationally.

How much time does it requires to start a company in the UAE?

Do I need to be present to Open a Company & Bank account & Getting Visa?

While many freezones do not require physical presence in the UAE. This means you can open a company and get the residence visa without physically present in the UAE. However, you should have travelled to the UAE in the past and can produce an entry stamp or old tourist visa. This helps in applying for your residence visa while you are away.

For Bank account, your presence is must. Please note that in order to obtain a bank account, residence visa must be stamped on your passport.

How do I open the bank account in the UAE?

To apply for a company bank account in the UAE, you would need the following documents

  1. Company / Business License
  2. Memorandum of Association (MOA)
  3. Tenancy Contract / Lease Agreement
  4. Stamped Residence Visa

How do I apply for my family visa?

Once your visa is issued by the immigration authority, you can then proceed for medical test and emirates id application. This is done to get your visa stamped on your passport.

After the visa stamping, you can apply to get your family visa. Please note that you would need the following documents to obtain your family visa:

  1. Attested Tenancy Contract
  2. Attested Birth Certificate
  3. Attested Marriage Certificate
  4. Passport Copies of the dependents
  5. Original Passport of the sponsor

Do I need to take an office to run my business in the UAE?

YES, if you have established a company in the freezone authority, you will get a virtual office or a shared desk from the freezone. This space can be used to operate your business

For Mainland License, you must take an office in that mainland jurisdiction. Without the office space your license may not be issued.

How much tax I have to pay to run my company in the UAE?

Please note that there are NO income tax or corporate tax in the UAE. Anyone who wishes to import, can do so by paying the custom duty of 5% to the custom authorities.

What is the renewal timeline for company license & Visa?

All the business license in the UAE are renewed every year. Residence visa for Investor can be obtained for 2 years and 3 years depending on the jurisdiction and the emirates.

Residence visa for employees can be obtained for 2 years and 3 years as well.

Do I have to take Medical Insurance in the UAE?

YES, Medical Insurance is mandatory in the UAE for all the residents. Medical insurance can be obtained for as low as AED 1000 per year. It varies depending on the type of facility and coverage of the insurance.
